No other country in the world can offer the kinds of sites and sounds that America can offer to those who love the outdoors. From the beginning of this great land, existing in the great outdoors has been the very thing that poets and presidents alike have extolled as one of the great virtues of our country.
President Theodore Roosevelt found the rugged outdoors to be the very thing that shaped a person by forging in him a kind of character and fortitude that was uniquely American. Other great presidents, including the great Abraham Lincoln, made their way to office after rising from the rugged outdoors of their youth.
Today, with all of the modern conveniences we have at our fingertips, it might seem as though those days of the hearty outdoor life may only be a thing of the past. The good news is, that is not true.
Camping in the United States is something that anyone can do in any state in the country. Thousands of campsites exist all over the country and men, women, and children flock to them every year to take advantage of what it means to spend time in the outdoors. In fact, in 2013, the average person who went camping went 5.4 times, and regardless of the type of camping, stayed 14.9 days.
An RV campground, for example, is one of the most popular types of camping destinations for families. These are wonderful places to camp, offering all of the hookups anyone might need to be comfortable in their RV. Often, these RV parks come equipped with facilities like swimming pools, bathrooms, and activity centers if guests would like a bit more of a modern twist on a camping vacation. This type of trip is one on which campers stay the longest, with 13% of RVers typically staying a week or more
RV parks are not the only type of camping that can be done around the country, though. Far from it. If cabins are something you are interested in, it is quite easy to find them in virtually every state. Cabins in New York will offer their own type of ambiance and beauty while cabin rentals in Iowa will offer a completely different experience.
Tents, RVs, a bivy, or a yurt all give a camper a perspective on this great country of ours that hotel accommodations simply cannot give. Camping is as old a past time as there is in America. It is how our forefathers lived their lives. It is how the great poet Ralph Waldo Emerson spent many of his days pondering life and existence in general.
If you haven’t taken the time to discover the great outdoors of America, give camping a try.
